Two Options: Licensure and Non-Licensure
- Licensure
- Designed for current educators who want to better support students with special needs, as well as future educators seeking a head start toward a full-time special education credential, this online, institution-sponsored certificate is ideal for classroom teachers, credential candidates, and school professionals. The program provides practical, hands-on experience through fieldwork in local schools and helps candidates develop essential skills in collaborating with student study teams, collecting and analyzing data, reporting objectively, and implementing modifications and accommodations to support students with mild to moderate needs in inclusive classrooms.
- This institution-sponsored certificate can be embedded into Biola's Liberal Studies, Multidisciplinary major.
- Non-Licensure
- Designed for educators and school professionals who want to deepen their expertise in special education, this program provides focused coursework in areas such as assessment and diagnosis, behavior management, autism spectrum disorder, and current topics and trends in the field.
- Students enrolled in courses where fieldwork hours are completed in a setting that does not align with California Commission on Teacher Credentialing's clinical hours guidelines may not receive verification for credential/licensure. Students enrolled in a non-licensure program are not eligible to enroll in a licensure program or to switch into a licensure program after enrollment.
