If we pay close attention to the cultural factors embedded in the Bible, we can see old stories come alive in new ways. In the story of the woman with the issue of blood in Luke 8, there are gender, economic, social, and personal factors at play that we as western moderns miss. Knowing what to look for as we read the Bible can help us appreciate old stories in ways that surprise us and cause us to fall in love with Jesus more.
