The Elisabeth Elliot Story

From September 2025 until May 2026, the Biola Library will host Through Gates of Splendor: The Elisabeth Elliot Story, a traveling exhibition developed in collaboration with the and . The exhibit explores the life and legacy of Elisabeth Elliot, focusing on her faith and resilience following the death of her husband during missionary work in Ecuador.

Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵ Elisabeth Elliot
Elisabeth Elliot (1926–2015) lived a life of faith, marked by obedience to God’s call even in the face of suffering and loss. Born to missionary parents and raised with a love for Scripture and service, she studied classical Greek at Wheaton College in preparation for Bible translation work. Her path would ultimately lead her to the rainforests of Ecuador, where she served among indigenous communities with her husband, Jim Elliot.
In 1956, Jim and four fellow missionaries were killed while attempting to make peaceful contact with the Waodäni people. Rather than turning away from the mission field, Elisabeth remained in Ecuador and later went to live among the very people who had taken her husband’s life. Her firsthand account of this journey, Through Gates of Splendor, became a landmark book in Christian literature and continues to inspire readers with its themes of sacrifice, forgiveness and redemption.
Over the decades, Elisabeth became a trusted voice through her writing, speaking and radio ministry. She challenged believers to embrace a deeper trust in God’s sovereignty and to follow Christ regardless of the cost.
