SWIM & DIVE TEAM
Biola’s swim and dive team had another strong season by setting eight new school records and finishing in the top eight at the Pacific Collegiate Swim and Dive (PCSC) Conference Championships, with the men placing fourth and the women placing eighth at the year-end event. The Biola women had the best team GPA of any team at the NCAA Division II level, with a 3.72. Both the men and women earned CSCAA Scholar All-America honors. Freshmen Clayton Owens and Jonathan Villa won individual PCSC championships, and Biola had eight all-conference honors and two relays earn all-conference.
MEN’S TENNIS
Biola men’s tennis made its second consecutive appearance in the PacWest Conference tennis championships after another fine regular season. The Eagles won at least seven matches for the sixth year in a row. Prior to the 2014 season that kicked o the streak, Biola had never won that many. Junior Derek James had a standout individual performance, beginning the year a sterling 11–1 in singles play. Freshman Edwyn Ramos also played an integral role, playing No. 1 singles all season despite being a first-year student-athlete.
WOMEN’S TENNIS
Biola women’s tennis qualified for the PacWest Conference tournament for the first time in program history. The young roster managed to eclipse eight victories for just the second time in the 2000s. It was arguably the best season in the program’s recent memory as the team improved drastically from last year’s 3–14 mark. Head Coach David Goodman’s core should continue to progress too, led by sophomore Esther Lee, freshman Ines Diaz and junior Lauren Lee, who will return in the 19–20 season.
TRACK & FIELD
Biola track and field saw more school records fall in another successful season. Sophomore Anna Maumalanga improved her school record in the discus, senior Ryan Thompson broke the men’s 10,000-meter record, junior Paige LaBare improved her 100-meter dash school record and junior Nathaniel Belden set the men’s 110-meter hurdles mark. The sprints/jumps group was the big highlight of the season, taking big steps forward all around, culminating with the setting of the women’s 4x100-meter relay record. The team sent a sizeable contingent to compete at the NCCAA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships.
